Colorful language
In a wedding setting, it’s commonplace to default to a playlist clear of expletives and racy content, but as New Yorkers, sometimes our musical love language is raw and expressed in the form of other four letter words. With Zaneta & Raul’s planning process, I had Batphone privileges with the groom and fondly remember texting about their verdict on clean vs. dirty. His response? “Unfiltered evening. ALL NATURAL.” As you wish!🤘🏾🌿
In their words
”One of the BIGGEST items on our wedding day to-do list was MUSIC. It was so important for our cultures, family and friends. The task we knew wouldn't be small one but Brent took on the challenge full steam. He helped perfectly capture not just our bond with each other but made both sides of the family come together. From the start Brent was engaged, asking questions, visiting venues, planning site layouts and coming up with the perfect blend of sound. Needless to say all of his work and careful management led to an incredible wedding day experience. Our hearts were filled as the dance floor resembled the melting pot of love we dreamed to have. We HIGHLY recommend Brent, not only for his skill set but his genuine passion in making dreams come true.”

”Brent understood our vibes from the beginning and really helped make this day amazing. We just wanted a fun party to celebrate with family and friends, so the ceremony was kept to a minimum and the dancing stayed at a maximum. I still get shout outs from friends on how our wedding and music was so awesome, and Brent helped make that happen! “

”In planning our wedding we immediately knew what was going to be most important to us: venue, photography, and music. We had been to enough weddings to know that this was key for us, and our family and friends to have a great time. We were so happy to find Brent because very quickly we could tell he wasn't the DJ who would just play his standard list of hits, but instead met with us and asked the right questions to better understand not only our tastes but what our guests wanted to hear also. The entire evening was a wonderful blur, but one of our favorite moments had to be when the music and the night felt so perfect that everyone starting dancing on the rooftop even through sprinkles of rain.”

In their words
”Brent helped us create the perfect vibe for our wedding. We wanted to stay away from the feel of a normal wedding and Brent helped us stay in the party lane. We had multiple guest ask for the playlist afterwards. Brent knocked it out the park.”

Late Nite
Tapering off the encompassing celebrations in nature’s elements, the party shifted indoors for a vibey house party comprised of a tight circle of friends. Knowing that they’re avid Burning Man participants, we were able to get deeper with the music and dancing into the early hours of the morning. Side note: Victoria, Jesse, and I originally connected through a mutual friend’s house party that I DJed, so we managed to bring this wild, music ride full circle 📀
In their words
”We decided 3 weeks before our wedding that we REALLY needed a DJ. Even though we had a tight timeline, we interviewed a lot of DJs and immediately felt like Brent got our vibe and could produce the event we imagined. We kept the night pretty loose and he did an excellent job of letting us have fun and enjoy ourselves. We barely left the dance floor, pushing the party to nearly 4AM.”

In lieu of having me assume MC duties, Kate & Olivia had a best friend who’s an actor command the crowd — from officiating the ceremony on to playing party host. This was a great use of talent and pre-established rapport to provide genuine connections with the wedding party and guests.
In their words:
”We had decided early on in wedding planning not to hire a DJ and that our own playlist would suffice. Then I worked with Brent at an event in NYC and knew right away we just had to have him at our wedding. Best decision ever! He kept the party going all night long, all our guests were so impressed with how awesome the music was. Thanks for a party we’ll never forget! “

* The (re)mix-up
At a pre-rehearsal site check with the two gents, I played their requested ceremony music to time their pacing down the aisle. At their recessional song, I was shot looks of confusion. I cued the wrong song… or did I? It turns out they weren’t aware that their recessional song is actually a remix. The lesson: Always cross-check key tunes to differentiate and confirm original, remix, cover, radio / dirty, acoustic, live, etc. song versions with your clients’ exact wants!
In their words
”We wanted our wedding to be a party with our closest friends and family so knew that music would be one of the most important parts of the night. Brent was above and beyond any expectations. He was able to read the energy of the room and played to what people were loving. We still have friends remind us of how good the music was at our wedding. It would not have been the same without you, Brent. Thank you!”

Breakdance fighting!
During a toast, Dan’s brothers talked a whole lotta mess about being the better dancers of their childhood break dance crew, icing the cake by leading the room into synchronized disco pointing. Not allowing the groom to go outshined, I called the brothers to center stage for a dance-off to settle the score as party was under way. Who set the floor ablaze? These party shots speak for themselves.
In their words
“Brent killed it. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to create the soundtrack for our big day. He took the time get to know us, our musical tastes, and what it would take to get our aunts and uncles on the dance floor. Kind, fun, professional and attentive, Brent is a diamond in the wedding DJ rough.”

It’s your thang, do what you wanna do…
In getting to know Angela and Tian, they were comforted in learning that they were not limited to what they’d experienced from attending previous weddings and deserved freedom in creating their own soundscape to reflect their special day. They shared stories about courting one another, exploring music at festivals together, and wanted to incorporate an edgier take on reception music. Confirming the older, traditional guests are not dancers, the couple took a carte blanche in creating a playlist to their own beat with no regrets.
In their words
”Brent was one of the most thoughtful wedding partners we worked with. He spent a whole afternoon getting to know us and our taste in music. And unlike all the other vendors we worked with, he was incredibly responsive to all our emails months leading up to our wedding - not just the month of. During the big day, he also emceed the event and just totally brought the party. Whenever we reminisce on our wedding day, either as a couple or with our friends, we always talk about how Brent was such a delight.”
